In the world of SEO or Search Engine Optimization, the question of what is no-index can be asked more than once. This term simply refers to a situation where the search engines, specifically Google, do not index a particular web page or website. Even worse, the no-index value of an HTML meta tag actually requests that automated Internet robots completely avoid indexing that particular web page. To understand what is no-index, it’s helpful to first understand what a no-index is. The no-index tag is essentially placed at the very top of an HTML document so that only robots that are programmed to prioritize website pages and not documents do business with this document.

No-index pages, or as some marketers call them “orphaned” websites, sit in the index just below the more popular pages. Because robots are designed to go by the keyword density of a webpage, and not the content, they end up ignoring the entire web site. Search engines look for the most important content first, and so when no content is found, the search engine robot does not index the site. The entire web site becomes worthless to online users. It literally does nothing!
There are different ways to avoid search engine rejection, but one way is to make sure that each page of your web site has a proper title tag. Each page must have a title tag that describes the page, and an XML title tag that will be used in the search engine query. Also, you should avoid using the same page name for multiple URLs on the same web site. Instead, you should create distinct URLs for every page of your web site. Also, you should keep in mind that when someone types a URL into the address bar, the search engine should interpret the address according to its own terms and format standards and not just follow the links.
Finally, you should make it very clear what is indexed and what is not indexed. This can be accomplished by using a file name editor, or by indexing software. Indexing software will create a detailed list for you of what is indexed, how much information is available, and for which keywords certain pages are indexed. Once this information is in your control, you can work with it to optimize your pages and increase your search engine ranking.
